Mathematics

Why choose Mathematics?

Mathematics helps answer questions like how banks verify digital signatures, whether planets move in stable orbits, or how to characterize shapes within three-dimensional figures. This Master’s programme offers a deep dive into the mathematical theories behind such questions.

You will join one of five internationally recognised research groups and choose a specialisation in Analysis and Dynamical Systems, Geometry and Topology, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry, or Probability and Discrete Mathematics. Alongside specialised knowledge, you will develop skills in abstraction, modelling, and scientific communication for both expert and general audiences.

Graduates find opportunities in diverse sectors including banking, insurance, consultancy, and research and development at companies such as Philips, Unilever, TNO, Gasunie, Ericsson, and CGI. Many also pursue PhD research, leading to careers in academia or advanced roles in industry. Career paths include analyst, consultant, researcher, or roles at multinational companies.
