Physics

Why choose Physics?

Physics is about uncovering the building blocks of nature and understanding how they shape our universe. You will explore topics such as elementary particles, quantum materials, dark energy and the complex behaviour of matter at the smallest scales.

The programme is tailored for students with a strong foundation in physics who wish to advance their expertise and engage in cutting-edge research. It prepares you to become an excellent researcher in areas including materials science, subatomic physics, isotope physics, and theoretical physics.

Most graduates continue with PhD research, either in Groningen or at other leading institutes worldwide. Others apply their analytical, technical and problem-solving skills in consultancy, process management, finance, education or commercial roles, where a physics background is highly valued.
